Mantara foaming technology

Mantara - a new foaming technology

MANTARA combines and utilizes the advantages of various injection molding and foaming processes, thereby generating extreme added value for the component.

The gas-loaded melt is injected into the partially opened mold. This is followed by the embossing process, which then completely fills the cavity. This embossing force is maintained for a defined period of time, and the mold opens to a defined gap. The drop in pressure during opening triggers bubble formation throughout the core. This results in various advantages for the component and the mold.

This technology was developed in collaboration with ARBURG and Plastic Concept.

Part and process advantage

  • Uniform pressure distribution in the component
  • Clamping force reduction due to gas loading of the melt
  • Clamping force reduction through injection compression molding
  • Increased bending stiffness with reduced weight
  • Homogeneous cell structure and density distribution
  • Low-stress and low-warpage components
  • Reduced cycle time
  • Improvement of the CO2 balance

Advantages for the mold

  • Reduced tool wear
  • Reduction in tool plate thickness possible
  • Lower energy consumption during the process
  • Less wear on the injection molding machine
