One example for the combination of different technologies is combining the processes of deep-drawing and back-injection for the fabrication of structural components in a continuous process. For example, a pre-heated organic sheet is shaped in an injection moulding tool and subsequently back-injected with reinforcing ribs. 

The Dolphin process is a highly integrated 2-component technology for the economical production of components with soft touch surfaces, such as interior elements for vehicles. A substrate part is first injection moulded and then covered with a thermoplastic elastomer foam in the same process step.

The Dolphin process was developed jointly by Georg Kaufmann Formenbau AG, SO.F.TER. SPA. and Engel Austria GmbH. It is offered by the development partners for shared use.

The Varysoft process also combines injection moulding with foaming, with the ability to control the thickness of the soft touch foam layer between the carrier and décor directly using the tool. Thus the foam layer is produced exactly in the desire area and in the required thickness.
